Welcome to this two-hour workshop to learn about and experience a personalized healing form of yoga called Medical Therapeutic Yoga or MTY! MTY is the practice of yoga in medicine, rehabilitation, and wellness settings instructed by a licensed healthcare professional who has graduated from the Professional Yoga Therapy Institute (PYTI) and has been credentialed as a PYT. MTY combines the best of both worlds for ultimate healing.
MTY uses the Biopsychosocial (BPS) model of care which provides personalized medicine attending not only to their physical needs but also their intellectual, psycho-emotional, social, energetic and spiritual concerns.
MTY is appropriate for students who - have never practiced yoga, pre- or post-surgery, post-partum, chronic illness, yoga teachers who would like to learn the latest and safest evidenced based yoga, and even experienced yoga practitioners who would like to step back and review subtle techniques to fine tune their practice or get past a stuck point in their practice.
Be introduced to the key concepts of MTY.
Learn how to combine yoga postures with evidence-based medicine with a primary focus on breathing and spine stability.
Explore research-based breath techniques to reduce stress and reverse chronic disease.
Experience how a PYTI level 1 beginner yoga class would flow starting with a guided meditation followed by breathing techniques useful for different postures. If the participants are able to learn and progress to using a spine-stabilizing breath, the workshop could move from supine to prone, sitting, all-fours, and eventually standing.
Please bring or be prepared with your own yoga mat, block, strap and at least 2 Mexican (or similar) blankets.
Cost per 2 hour workshop is $35. Or purchase the series of 5 for a discount of $158! This series will continue to repeat, allowing for attendance at a later date for any one missed in the series due to unfortunate circumstances – good for up to a year from original purchase date.

"I started seeing Barbara after experiencing several chronic running injuries. I had been battling plantar fasciitis,, hip pain and low back pain. Barbara has helped me through a combination of physical therapy, yoga, myofascial release, and strength training. I had been to other physical therapists and doctors before, but no one had has helped me as the way Barbara has. She is the most patient, understanding and encouraging practitioner. With her help and guidance, I have become stronger, run farther and achieved goals that I never had believed were possible. Barbara believed in me and gave me the confidence to believe in myself. She has given me tools to continue to keep my body and mind healthy. Working with her has completely changed my outlook on exercise, health, and wellness."

"Barb is creative and thinks practically about what you need to do on a daily basis to get around. I have an exercise routine I follow everyday and regularly go to bar classes and yoga. I am motivated to stay in shape as I am quite active. Barb will always keep you safe, use her creativity to keep you active and motivated. Her experience in being an athlete and physical therapist have really given terrific insight into helping people of all ages to stay active. I would never hesitate to use her again and again if needed and would highly recommend her to anyone. I wish her great success in her career as she always strives for improvement. She will always give you the time you need and prepare you to be the most active you can be."
